How can research data management be simplified?
How can this be supported by up to date software?
The data manager is QBiC’s answer for these questions and more for large OMICs projects in the life sciences. We are developing a free and open-source software solution that is engineered together with domain experts and power users to assist in the life cycle of complex research data management.
QBiC started its journey in research data management back in 2012 and developed a first solution qPortal , that served as a portlet-based solution for our customers and researchers on premise.
Later, we extended qPortal and tried to incorporate OMERO-server for its unique imaging domain features.
To keep up with the requirements and technological advancements, we investigates different solutions how to continue to maintain our support for data management of omics and imaging data.
One of the key requirements was to keep the software stack as slim as possible and avoid too much technical complexity.
In a joint decision with QBiC’s management and thorough evaluation also with the research software engineers, we decided to start from scratch. This time though, we wanted to incorporate all we have learned so far and bring it into a new product: the Data Manager
We regularly incorporate domain experts in the development and design of our products. Therefore we are creating solutions from researchers for researchers, with the expertise and partner facilities we have on campus.
Data management takes extra effort. But we want to provide our users with experience as positive as possible and support them with tools they know while not sacrificing the requirements for sustainable research data management.
